'WESTIES WEEDERS'

LOVE WEST BEACH?...come join in and get some tips on how to help keep Westies wonderful. Sun 15th Oct 9am - 11am, meet at Westies 'First Beach' carpark (Albany St). FREE BBQ LUNCH & FREE local native SEEDLINGS for all participants. All welcome. Come for 10 minutes or for longer - it all helps.

We'll be focussing on the pink daisies that are starting to flower - a garden escapee that has the risk to become a major weed, particularly on the sandy soils near the coast, reducing the habitat and food for our native birds and other animals. The weeds are pretty but there are local plants that are pretty and pink too - and the local ones provide food for our native wildlife.

This weekend is also the 2017 WA Beach Clean-up, so we'll have bags available for anyone happy to help clean our beaches of rubbish. http://www.tangaroablue.org/event-list/event/350-2016-wa-beach-clean-up.html

BUST some Brome!

Come join in a community BROME BUSTING session at Salmon Beach with the Esperance Weeds Action Group. This beautiful Esperance Beach has been the focus of a community rehabilitation project supported by South Coast Natural Resource Management Inc. the past few years. We're winning the war, but the battle of the weeds continues - need to remove the Brome Grass before it drops it's seeds.

Castletown Community Weeding Session

Castletown Quays Community Weeding Session - THURSDAY 23rd March, 4 - 5.30pm. Come join in and bust some weeds. Meet at the carpark opposite the Travs inn (Crn Goldfields Rd & Castletown Quays).  Supported by the Shire of Esperance.

Salmon Beach BROME BUST

Come and help BUST some BROME GRASS ! Community weed busting session at Salmon Beach - everyone is welcome, all gear supplied (gloves etc). Meet in the 'western' carpark. The Brome grass weeds need pulling before the seeds drop into the revegetated area. Come lend a hand for 10 min's or an hour - every bit helps protect this beautiful stretch of coast.

Carnation Carnage Continues!

The carnage of the carnation weed continues! One more hit to this weed at Salmon Beach and you weeding warriors will have won!...for now ;) Following on from 2 successful weeding sessions, we've one section left to go for this particular weed - it's looking impressive down there, and is only going to get better...

Carnation Carnage

Come create 'carnation carnage' at Salmon Beach where Geraldton Carnation Weed and it's cousins have been causing some carnage on their own in our coastal bush! The 'Pelargonium pull party' last Thursday was a great success which turned into some carnation weed/sea spurge carnage, so we've decided to dedicate a whole weeding session to causing some more carnation carnage before the next lot of seeds set.

Community volunteer weeding session to remove the invasive garden escape 'Rose Pelargonium' which is smothering native vegetation at the beautiful Salmon Beach foreshore, Esperance WA.

Community Weed Busting Session

Some more weed busting needed at 'First/West Beach'...Wild Radish is about to set seed so needs pulling out, as does the Brome Grass and Wild Oats. Come and lend a hand for 10 minutes, or an hour, it all makes a difference. Hope to see you there. All welcome. Gloves etc provided

Community Weed Busting Session

What a difference an hour makes!...West Beach (Firsts) is looking much better after the session busting weeds in our revegetation site  - one ute load full of mostly Brome Grass! A big thankyou to the locals and visitors who turned out to help. And what a beautiful way to end a busy work week.
